…where Motown, R&B, and Gospel meet!

The Victoria Soul Gospel Choir is a talented and enthusiastic community choral group made up of singers of all ages and walks of life, who love and embrace the unique blend of Motown, R&B, Smooth Soul and Afro-American music. Although Gospel music is undeniably spiritual, the Victoria Soul Gospel Choir is not affiliated with any religion or church.

Under the direction of the talented Checo Tohomaso, the choir began just over a decade ago with a handful of voices singing five-part harmony. It has now grown to over 70 members – men and women – who share spirited song and infectious energy that brings audiences to their feet!

Born in Florida, Checo grew up in Hawaii and Japan and has entertained with many notable performers throughout his career. He was honoured to have played and performed throughout the last European tour with Motown legend Marvin Gaye. As a vocalist and keyboard player, he then joined a world tour with Green Machine, the back-up group for the Commodores and Lionel Richie. Following his performance at Expo ’86, Checo settled on the west coast and now resides in Vancouver, BC.

Checo travels from the mainland bi-weekly to guide the choir and together, they expand their joyous enthusiasm. He delights in showcasing the combined talents of his choir members on stage. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself clapping, dancing and singing along to some of the greatest known hits in the history of Motown, R&B and funky Soul music!
